• That ‘no’ is just somebody’s opinion, and frequently uttered from a frightened and narrow mind.
  • To trust my instincts more – it would certainly have saved me a great deal of bother and heartache.
  • To always be grateful for what you have even when you are feeling at your lowest ebb, there is always something to be thankful for, be it food in your belly or a hot shower and that place is a great point to start the day.

  • That when you meet three gobshites in a day you are the gobshite.
  • That the only person you can change is yourself, that you are the cause and solution to every problem.
  • That when you lose your temper you rob yourself of the opportunity of being right.
  • That it’s important to thank people who have come into your life and made an impact, be it a kind word or a note of encouragement, they need to know.
  • Put a price on yourself because no one else will.
  • To bend with the branch that bends with you and surround yourself only with people and things that nourish you.
  • That when your hand is in the dog, pull slowly.
  • That the graveyards are full of people who thought they were indispensable.
  • To thine own self be true. You might as well — because everyone else is taken.
  • That honesty without sensitivity is barbarity. Sentimentality isn’t truthful, it is the language of gangsters.
  • You can’t fill a spiritual hole with material things.
  • You should always be teachable.
  • What’s for you won’t go by you. Start where you are. Use what you’ve got. Do what you can.
  • When you strive to become better than you are, everything around you becomes better too.
  • If you can’t remember any of the above just be kind it’s what makes the world go round.

But then again you can’t put an old head on young shoulders.
